DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (KTIV) - Only one year after it opened, Mercy Medical Center's clinic in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota is closing.
It's last day is November 16th.
The sign behind me says "Now accepting new patients, but this Dakota Dunes Mercy Medical Center Clinic will close just after one year of service."
"Mercy's Clinic in Dakota Dunes is closing on November 16th. In its current configuration, it's not to say if your doctor is a part of that practice, he or she will be leaving the community." said Mike Krysl.
Mercy Medical Center is calling the closure a "reconfiguration". And while you may think it's tied to the troubled economy, Mercy officials say it's more of looking at what the consumers want.
"What we're currently doing is taking a good look at the delivery of primary care services in the Dakota Dunes community and as a result of that, we're making some changes, said Krysl.
Krysl says patients will be getting a letter regarding the closure and hopefully Mercy will still have a presence in the Dunes.
"We really think we'll be in a position to offer care services to primary care patients and specialty patients in some area of the Dunes in the future," said Krysl.
Krysl says this is the only Mercy Medical Clinic that will be closing at this time.
Krysl does say they hope to add a doctor to the South Sioux City clinic to keep up with patient demand there, and plan to announce a new family health clinic opening some where in the region in the upcoming weeks.
