Travel changes

Sioux City, IOWA (KTIV) - As of June 1st, the U-S government now requires people who are U.S. citizens to have current travel documents.

U.S. citizens returning to the U-S from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda-- by land or sea-- will be required to have a U-S Passport or a U.S. Passport Card.

If you fly any where, you must have a passport, that costs $100, but if you are only traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry, you can purchase a $45 U.S. Passport Card.

"If you are going to take a cruise, in all actuality you really need a passport because you are coming from a US port and you are docking back to a US port. The key thing people have to remember is that if you stop at an island that requires a passport , guess what you don't get off," says, Mary Ann Sargent, AAA.

The Post Office Passport Center in Sioux City officials say, they've seen an increase since the beginning of the year and if you apply for a passport, it will take four to six weeks for it to be processed.
