Gordon Drive bridge will get a facelift

Sioux City, IOWA (KTIV) - Highway reconstruction on Sioux City's east side could re-route traffic on Gordon Drive next year.

The bridge is east of the South Palmetto intersection near Western Iowa Tech's Transportation Building.

The Iowa Department of Transportation wants to remove the bridge, which goes over some abandoned railroad tracks and fill in the gap.

The problem is, it's a major route, which could mean traffic headaches for thousands of people.

"What we hope is something that helps to maintain traffic as less of an impact, maybe doing stage construction or a localized run around the project," said, Dakin Schultz, Iowa DOT District.

The DOT will begin work on the bridge removal next year.

The public will have a chance to weigh in on the project next month.
