CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) -- Managers at two major Iowa malls report that sales are up from last year on Black Friday.
The Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville opened its doors at 6 a.m., but shoppers were lined up as early as 3 a.m.
Shoppers reported lines twice as long at some stores.
At Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines, general manager Randy Tennison says more than 55,000 shoppers visited the mall between midnight and 4 a.m. Friday.
That's an increase of nearly 20 percent from last year.
The mall opened one minute after midnight Friday for its "Rockin Shoppin' Eve" event.
Officials say that by 2 a.m. there were nearly 50,000 shoppers, a 37 percent increase from 2008.
The event features live entertainment, prize giveaways and free coffee.
