AMUNDSEN-SCOTT RESEARCH STATION, Antarctica (KTIV) -- While people in the United States are getting ready to celebrate Christmas, Tracy Matheny is getting ready to wind his holiday down. The Sioux City man continues to unearth an old research station at the South Pole, which will become part of a museum in California.
Matheny has one ornament in his office on the Amundsen-Scott Research Station and he says his family has sent him boxes of presents to open. He's also sent presents back home to sit under the tree until Christmas morning.
"I've sent some shirts, some sweaters and some coats. I sent some very nice jewelry. So I purchased several of those to ship back for my wife and daughters to fight over," Matheny said.
