East Middle School Celebrates MLK Day

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV)

East Middle School celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's life and legacy.

The Mt. Zion Church had their dance team, choir, and step team perform for students.

Pastor Floyd E. Brown spoke at the event.  "Dr. King was a great man, he said in a sermon one time, every man can be great," said Brown.

Student President, Jonte Harris says Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave her a chance to be who she wanted to be. "I'm black. I'm proud...thanks to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., race and gender will not prevent me from being who I want to be," said Harris.

Student, Allison Nash sang "God Bless America" and other speaker included, the event organizer Andrew Pearson, Monique Scarlett, Tito Parker, and Dr. Paul Gausman.
