A local grocery store is helping earthquake victims in Haiti

Sioux City, IOWA - Helping out the people of Haiti can be as easy as going to the grocery store.

All 96 Iowa Fareway stores are partnering with the Iowa based company called Food from the Heartland to ship packets of food to earthquake victims in Haiti.

Shoppers can donate one, five or ten dollars by purchasing coupons that will be displayed at the store.

The money goes towards purchasing rice based shelf stable meals to feed Haitians.

"Fareway stepped up to the plate and said we need to get involved in that and we are just asking our customers to realize that dream to help and give the kids and the people in Haiti that have nothing right now, said Mike Hammel, Fareway Grocery Manager.

Fareway stores are collecting donations until the 13th of February.

Every $50 dollars raised will feed 10 children for a month.
