Sioux City to make pitch to Google to become test site
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- Sioux City needs your nomination. It's not for any political office, but to become a trial community for Google's "Fiber for Communities" project.
City officials are applying to become a test site for Google's new fiber optic network. The project promises Internet connections 100 times faster than current speeds.
The city says they offer several important advantages that other cities vying for Google's attention cannot match. City officials cite Sioux City's dense downtown core, yet its small enough for Google to avoid the cost and complications of building in a larger city.

Google says they are hoping to "work in a community where they can bring significant benefits to residents and develop useful proofs-of-concept that can have a broader impact."
