SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- An event that's all about empowering and encouraging people touched by cancer, kicked off this evening.
The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is held every summer. Teams get together to raise money and awareness about the disease in hopes of finding a cure. Organizers say everyone should know all they can about cancer because it's a disease that doesn't discriminate.
Amy Paulsen of American Cancer Society says, "I think we all know someone who has been touched by cancer in some way shape or form. It's kind of an empowering way to make your own pledge to fight back against the disease."
The Relay for Life will be held on July 16th at Memorial Field in Sioux City.
Last year, it raised around $100,000 and this year's goal is $110,000. If you'd like to get involved, visit relayforlife.org.
