Iowa hires Siena's Fran McCaffery to replace Lickliter

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Siena's Fran McCaffery has been hired to be the next coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta released a statement on Sunday confirming the hire. 

McCaffery's been the head coach at Siena for the past 5 seasons, and has taken the Gael's to 3 consecutive NCAA tournaments.  The Philadelphia native also spent 10 years as an assistant coach at Notre Dame.

McCaffery recorded a 112-51 overall record during his time at Siena.

The Hawkeyes have been searching for a new coach since Todd Lickliter was fired on March 15.

McCaffery will be introduced at a press conference tentatively scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Iowa City. You can watch the news conference live on www.KTIV.com.
