DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -- Iowa's Department of Humans Services continues its reorganization plans, following Governor Chet Culver's 10% across the board cuts.
Today, DHS announced it will consolidate eight separate child abuse intake units to a central facility in Des Moines. The center determines if a complaint of a child or dependant adult should be investigated by social workers.
Out of 35,000 calls alleging abuse last year, 25,000 were investigated. Officials say the response times for DHS investigations will not change
Sioux City is home to one of the intake units. As far as employees in Sioux City, officials say they'll be able to apply for positions in Des Moines.
Another announcement today -- that 23 county DHS offices will be converted from full-time to part-time status. These counties include, Crawford, Plymouth and Cherokee.
