Work starts on major Elk Point, SD construction project
ELK POINT, SD (KTIV) -- Elk Point, South Dakota has started one of the biggest construction projects in its history. Construction will cover 14 blocks and run through the city's business district.
Officials say the more than $2 million project will resurface the street, and update underground sewers, as well as storm sewers. It's a major update for the current underground system, which is nearly a century old.
"The state wanted to replace the surface, this is the best time to do it because you wouldn't want to tear up the new surface to replace the underground," says Elk Point Public Works Director Jerry Buum.
Officials say work on the downtown section of the project will take around two months to complete. The entire project is expected to be finished in August.
