SIOUX CITY, IA (KTIV) - Sioux City's pit bull ban is now in effect, but police say they don't know how to enforce it yet.
The ordinance that passed two years ago requires any unregistered pit bull to be taken outside the city limits... or be euthanize.
Officials say there are about 100 animals that weren't registered by the March 31st deadline... that they know of.
Police are still meeting with Animal Control, trying to decide how to prosecute those who don't follow the ban.
Officials say the public won't be notified when they start their search.
"We are going to begin doing this, we won't come out with a specific date and time that says that we are starting this, basically, what we are looking at is officers will go out on a as available status," says Sioux City Public Information Officer Mark Kirckpatrick
Officials say they believe many of the city's pit bulls have already been taken outside city limits.
