SIOUX CITY, IA (KTIV) --
Iowa's a leader in production area's such as hogs and corn...
But now wind?
A recent study by the American Wind Energy Association says, Iowa is the second largest producer of wind energy in the nation.
The report showed Iowa passed California in 2008, and now is trailing Texas for the lead.
Energy specialists say the problem wind turbines face in Iowa is transportation costs to move the energy to metropolitan areas.
"The biggest question right now is who pays for that and I think there is a real market there of we can get the power to a metropolitan area like Chicago," says NIPCO Vice President Chuck Soderberg.
