O'Brien County ready for wind turbines

PRIMGHAR, Iowa (KTIV) -- Many Northwest Iowa counties are dotted with wind turbines, now another one says it's ready to join them.

O'Brien County just made revisions to an ordinance to attract alternative energy companies.

At the suggestions of several companies, O'Brien County clarified language regarding where turbines can be located, permits for their construction... and how power cables will be built.

County leaders say they're trying to make their regulations clear before turbines start moving in.

O'Brien County Supervisors Chairman Tom Farnsworth says, "The last thing that we want to do is deter the wind people. We want them, I mean we want them to come and we're trying to work with them. We think we've got a fair ordinance up."

Farnsworth says at least three power producers have expressed interest in O'Brien County.

The changes to the wind power ordinance are already in effect.
