DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) - A brand new poll gives former Iowa governor Terry Branstad a double-digit lead over his nearest Republican rival just five days before the gubernatorial primary.
The poll, done by KCCI-TV, in Des Moines, surveyed 600 likely voters between May 31st and June 2nd. 44% of those voters said they'd vote for Branstad. Another 29% would pull the lever for Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats. Just 12% say they'd support state representative Rod Roberts.
Head-to-head, Branstad is the only Republican who beats incumbent governor Chet Culver. If the election were held, today, Branstad would get the support of 51% of voters, while Culver would come away with 42% of the vote.
In a head-to-head match-up with Vander Plaats,Culver would eek out a 1% win. But, that race is within the margin of error.
