Changes planned at Mercy's Dakota Dunes clinic

DAKOTA DUNES, SD (KTIV) -- More changes are on the way for one of Mercy Medical Center's clinics.

Mercy recently sent out letters, informing its patients that Dr. Jeremy Vande Zande will no longer practice at the Dakota Dunes clinic.

Dr. Vande Zande's last day at the Dunes clinic is on July 2, then he'll move into the emergency room at Mercy. Dr. Amy Callaghan will then assume hours at the family practice clinic.

Mercy leaders say they have bigger plans for Dakota Dunes and could make an announcement this summer on adding specialty doctors at the clinic.

Jim Wharton of Mercy Medical Center says, "Health care is an important part of the community and as they try to build that community out there, we want to be a part of it too."

Mercy operates other clinics in the Sioux City area, and patients will be able to move their medical services one of those.

Last November, Mercy reduced the number of doctors in Dakota Dunes from one, to two, citing a slow-down in the medical practice market.
