Voter turnout highest in 16 years

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- Last night was Woodbury County's highest voter turnout for a primary.

Voters flocked to poles... tallying near 8-thousand for the county... the highest in 16 years, and officials say the governor's race was a factor.

14% of all registered voters in the county turned out last night.

Of those more than seventeen hundred were registered Democrats. But more than six thousand were registered Republicans.

Officials say turnout was high 1994 because of Sioux City native and Congressman Fred Grandy's primary run against then governor Terry Branstad.
