Construction is underway for the new Spalding Elementary School.
However heating and cooling the school will be done through new technology.
The school will be heated with a geothermal well, something that has already been installed at the new Liberty Elementary School.
The geothermal well is composed of 144 individual wells that will be connected and looped throughout the ground to keep the school at a constant 56 degrees.
School board officials met today to award Mid-West Geothermal the contract.
The contract for the well is about $440,000.
With help from the rebate, school board members say the system's energy savings will pay for itself in less than three years.
