Woodbury County funds flood plain study

Woodbury County will be funding a private study of flood plains to submit to FEMA.

The board of supervisors awarded a private company, Schnider, to start studies and collect data for three areas of concern in the county.

For the last couple months the county has been in talks with FEMA regarding their placement of flood zones.

However, FEMA has rejected maps recently submitted by the Department of Natural Resources.

This private study includes areas near Sergeant Bluff, Browns Lake and the area near Design Homes which includes Liberty Park.

Cost for the first two stages of study is just under $25,000.
