Le Mars, IA offers tearful farewell to 80 soldiers
LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) -- They showed their support with t-shirts, handshakes and hugs. In Le Mars, Iowa, family and friends said goodbye to soldiers headed overseas.
Before leaving, the troops had 45 minutes with their families to say their farewells.
The group's commander says no matter how many times a soldier is deployed, it's never easy.
"The experience really depends on if you have done it before, there is some apprehension within the soldiers because they haven't done it before, or others they know what they are about to do so they understand and they are ready to do it," says the group's commander Lt. Col. Dave Updegraff.
The troops will still have some final training in Mississippi before heading to Afghanistan in October.
