SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- Sioux City police say a young boy is in the hospital after he was bitten by a dog.
Officers say, around 7:00 Wednesday, an off-duty officer responded to a call in the 2300 block of Douglas Street. The caller said a 19-month-old boy was being attacked by a dog, believed to be a husky breed.
The child was freed from the dog's jaws and taken to St. Luke's Regional Medical Center. The child's aunt says the boy remained in the hospital Tuesday night, where he's undergoing intestinal surgery.
Authorities with Sioux City Animal Control returned later to take the dog away.
