Police cracking down on holiday weekend

NORTH SIOUX CITY, SD (KTIV) -- With the weather expected to hold out here in Siouxland, the roads will be busy with travelers.

AAA expects a 10% increase for hotel rooms, car rentals and vacation packages.

Local police recommend setting extra time aside to avoid rushing from place to place. They say many accidents they see each year are from drivers who are hurrying to their destination.

Police also say they'll be cracking down on those drinking and driving.

"It is going to be enforced really heavily by all of the departments over the area, you don't want to ruin your weekend by having a DUI arrest," says North Sioux City Police Chief Jody Frye.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is also reminding folks to be careful in construction zones.
