SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- Woodbury County leaders say they've had so much success with their wellness program, they're expanding it to include spouses.
The Board of Supervisors voted to spend $27,000 to cover health screenings and wellness coaching for employee spouses who are already covered by they county's health insurance plan.
Sixty-six-percent of county workers have taken part so far. The board feels by adding spouses, it'll not only encourage better health, but save the county money in the long run.
"We think it's a very positive, positive move and we have the past year since we implemented this program have seen some dramatic cost savings," says county supervisor Doug Walish.
Walish says the money will come out of the county's $1.8 million health insurance fund. They hope to start the new round of health screenings for both employees and spouses in December.
