Rounds: 20,000 sandbags holding floodwaters back in SE SD

RENNER, S.D. (KTIV) - There are still flooding concerns farther north along the Big Sioux River.

About two dozen homes were flooded in Renner, South Dakota... a few miles north of Sioux Falls... after the Big Sioux came out of its banks.

Heavy rains late last week get the blame. Authorities say water levels will hold there for about 24 hours... before dropping.

Governor Mike Rounds says close to 20-thousand sandbags are in use.

Inmates from the Minnehaha county jail were working side by side with state inmates sandbagging down there so that was a great team effort down there and they were winning the battle.

South Dakota's already received six presidential disaster declarations this year... for flooding, blizzards, ice storms and tornadoes.
