SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- All Saints Day isn't until Monday, but that didn't stop some Sioux City elementary kids from starting early.
Friday, second graders at Mater Dei dressed up as saints and gave presentations about what the saints did.
Students and family members gave the second graders pennies because an old tradition says this allows the saints to come alive.
Students that played Saint Madeleine and Saint Nicholas told us about their patron saints.
"She founded the, um, Sacred Heart. And she's the patron saint of school girls," says Isabelle Bertram, Mater Dei 2nd grader.
"He helped the father of three daughters. And he puts candy in your shoe," says Carter Weiland, Mater Dei 2nd grader.
The money that students received will go towards the Giving Tree at Immaculate Conception Church, which provides Christmas presents for folks in need.
