Runway Review showcases fashion of the past

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- With spring here it's good to get outside and walk.

But at Sioux City's Convention Center Thursday night, it was all about walking the runway.

Kristie VerMulm says, "When you think of glamorous Hollywood women, certain leading ladies come to mind. Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe are all examples of women with timeless beauty. We tried to capture the essence of that in fashion on the catwalk."

The Saint Luke's Spirit of Women Runway Review, now in its 6th year, found fashion inspiration in many eras. Known as a decade with some strange clothing concepts, the models channeled their inner Charlie's Angels to bring out the best of the 1970's. June Cleaver was the perfect TV mom in the 1950's, but her style of dress still makes a statement today.

"It's just kind of like a girls night out and it sounded really, like something new to come and check out and see what it's about," said Rachel Rhode, Sioux City, IA.

"I love forward to the runway. I look forward to the booths. I look forward to being with my sister, sister-in-law and friends, we just have a good time," said LaDonna Newberg, Hinton, IA.

And if you're a material girl in a material world, there's plenty of bling to be found. From purses and pockets, to gems on jeans. And don't forget the real diamonds! Elizabeth Taylor meets Sophia Loren in this gown by Halston. Newschannel Four's Christy Batien and Kristen Johnson even strutted their stuff before a crowd of about 500 people.

Kristin Koch, St. Luke's Spirit of Women Coordinator says,"We started this event six years ago to do something different for women to have fun and a great night out."

Kristie VerMulm says, "One of the things I never thought I would see in a fashion show... macramé. Those art projects or 4-H projects with strings and knots are big in some of the outfits this year. So you never know where designers get their inspirations. So with this Runway Review now in the books, I think it's time to get out of these three inch heels, my feet are killing me. What we won't do for fashion."

Thursday's event also included vendors for shopping and a dinner.
