Grand Falls Casino Resort celebrates grand opening
In less than a year, it has gone from a plot of land to Iowa's newest casino. Thursday marked the grand opening of the Grand Falls Casino Resort near Larchwood.
The ribbon is cut. The people were piling in.
"We hope that guests will come through and just be in awe of all the details of this resort. We put a lot of work into it and we're ready to show it off," said the casino's general manager Sharon Haselhoff.
Inside the glamorous gaming hall sat 900 slot machines and 24 table games, roulette, blackjack, even craps.
"I think that we have taken it to the next level here," said Haselhoff.
And if you've wondered why they call it the Grand Falls Casino Resort, well in the back sits a 100 foot wide waterfall. It's a lot to see and do and the first customers were giving rave reviews.
"I think it's awesome," said guest Loras Baum.
"We really haven't looked around, but everything I've seen... it looks like it's going to be a very successful casino," said another guest Kay Savaidis.
"It's spectacular, it's really nice," said guest Glenn Patton.
For some the slots were a bit slow..."So far, not so good. I've lost 40 dollars in this machine and I don't know why I am still here," said guest Phyllis Davis.
But for others the tables were hot. "I got 21, I think that's super," said another guest playing blackjack.
At this new casino, you may win some or lose some. But, they hope you'll follow their catch phrase and "live it up".
"The reason why people are going to come here is it's a place to get away and have fun and enjoy some time," said Haselhoff.
The Grand Falls Casino Resort is, of course a hotel too, with 97 rooms. It'll also feature a 18-hole golf course by spring 2013.
