The Iowa DOT reminds anyone evacuating due to flood waters, or conducting business or living in a flood-prone area, to be sure to gather and safely secure important documents.
Be sure to take documents for proof of age and identity that would be needed to apply for a new or duplicate driver's license card, including: birth certificate, United States passport, citizenship or Immigration Services document and military ID card.
Other personal documents to take include your Social Security card, driver's license, photo identification card, marriage certificate, military papers, employer ID card, student photo ID card, school records or transcript, health insurance card, voter registration card and pilot's license.
Commercial motor carriers should gather their business records, fuel tax permit, operating authority, trip permits, highway use tax reports, tax returns, IFTA forms, certificate of authority, cab card, Unified Carrier Registration and other operating paperwork.
In addition to paper records, consider vulnerability of electronic records stored on computers or storage devices. Scan important documents onto your computer and save them on a USB drive. Doing this will help you keep all your important information in a safe and secure place.
