Cancer Center benefits from upcoming Mud Run

    Fitness and fun is the focus for the CrossFit Sioux City 5K Mud Run set for 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at Pipe Dream.
    Participants will run, climb ropes, and tackle various obstacles all while raising money for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. Registration fee is $25 through August 10, and $30 after that. Fees include a t-shirt and post-event refreshments.  Register at CrossFit Sioux City, 1803 – 4th Street in Sioux City.
    "We are proud to support the Cancer Center and we're pumped for our first CrossFit event. If you're up for a challenge, come out and have a good time," says coach and trainer, Jerry DuBois. "Bring a friend and go tubing afterwards."
    Pipe Dream is in the scenic Floyd River Valley, one mile north of Hinton.
    Donations to the Cancer Center help patients with financial assistance, transportation, prescription assistance, housing, food, clothing and other items they need while struggling with a cancer diagnosis.
    "We appreciate CrossFit supporting the Cancer Center," says Pat Hubbard, Director of Fund Development. "We believe good physical health is a key component is the prevention of many kinds of cancer."

Annual Cherokee Creek Fest supports Cancer Center

    Lovers of music and the outdoors are invited to attend Creek Fest 2012 in Cherokee, Iowa.
    Camping, live music, food, swimming, volleyball, nature walk and more are in store for July 20-22 in rural Cherokee.
    "This year we're gearing up for a "better than ever" festival," said Kurt Rasmus, one of the event organizers.  "We're donating a portion of the proceeds to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, as well. Many of our Cherokee residents have used the services of the Cancer Center. Bring the family and enjoy a fun weekend."
    Friday night's bands include Soggy River Bottom Boys and The Rude Band; Short Notice, Fork in the Road and Arch Allies play Saturday night and Wave Length, Riata and The Innocense bands entertain Sunday night.  Guests are invited to bring their motorcycles for a Saturday morning ride starting at 11 a.m.  There will also be a cancer walk Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The Saturday afternoon mud volleyball starts at 1 p.m.
