SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Former US senator and current Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum thinks he has what it takes to beat President Barack Obama.
The Republican spoke to a group at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City Thursday. He said in his time as a US representative, and senator, he's bested three Democratic incumbents.
Santorum said he hopes to win the GOP's backing with grassroots politics. He said he has high hopes for the Iowa Straw Poll.
"I think there is about ten candidates on the Straw Poll, I think it would be great to finish in the top half. I think that would surprise a lot of people," said the candidate.
Santorum said he's spent the last two weeks traveling Iowa with his family. The Iowa Straw Poll is Aug. 13th.
