DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A Maquoketa man is dead after a boat crash on the Mississippi river Thursday night.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says that James Sutton, 45, was killed when a boat driven by Kent Hoffman, 38, of Galena, Ill., drove over the top of Sutton's boat.

A passenger in Sutton's boat, Lori Fey, 47, also of Maquoketa, was not seriously injured.

It happened near the Hawthorne Street boat ramp in Schmidt Harbor, just after 9:00 p.m.

The crash is being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Dubuque Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
