A levy renewal for Western Iowa Tech Community College will be on the ballot in two weeks and WIT officials want voters to know how important this levy is to them.
Officials say the physical plant levy is not a new tax, it will just renew the current one. The money is used only to fund facilities and equipment.
The levy costs a half cent for every dollar paid in property taxes and the projected amount of funds is $1.3 million per year.
They say the money also helps the college maintain its current programs like Advanced Manufacturing and other emerging fields.
"Most of our equipment if it were over ten years old wouldn't be very effective to train students in. So it's important that we renew so that we can have up-to-date equipment for our students to be able to learn," said Dr. Terry Murrell, WIT President.
The levy has to be renewed every ten years and the vote is September 13.
