Where are we now? Siouxland's Freedom Quilters

It was a quiet day in Varina, Iowa. On September 11th, 2001, Dennis and Betty Nielsen were at home getting ready for the harvest. "And then the phone rang, and my son called, and he said turn on the TV," said Betty Nielsen.

Betty did. A moment she'll never forget. A moment that changed her life forever.

I don't know what it was, but it was just seeing those buildings go down. Seeing the families, the people, the pain that they were going through. I thought, I have to do something," said Betty.

Betty couldn't sleep that night and prayed for an answer; a way to help those hurting.

It started with five quilts in September of 2001, but Betty Nielsen couldn't stop and now she and the other Freedom Quilters will look back on 10 years of comforting families touched by tragedy. That story is coming up Friday on News 4 at six in, "Where are we now? 9/11 ten years later."
