It started with five quilts in September of 2001, but Betty Nielsen couldn't stop and now she and the other Freedom Quilters will look back on 10 years of comforting families touched by tragedy.More >>
FONDA, Iowa (KTIV) -
Events are being planned around Siouxland to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. And one of those events is spear-headed by a group that's spent the last decade helping families of the victims. The Freedom Quilters have stitched nearly 7-thousand quilts since the tragedy... all going to the families of 9/11 victims and fallen soldiers. To honor those families... Freedom Quilts is holding a three-day event. "It's history. It's something that we should always remember. And on the 11th we're especially going to honor the 9/11 families," said Betty Nielsen.
Three day event starts with a show Friday night at the King's Pointe Ballroom in Storm Lake. Bicycle and motorcycle rides are scheduled for Saturday. And the big memorial event is Sunday at 3:00pm at the St. Mary's Gym in Storm Lake. For all the details... check out the Freedom Quilts website.
