State withdraws safety citation against Casey's

State workplace safety officials say Casey's General Stores Inc. will not be fined in connection with a fire that killed an employee at a store in La Porte City.

The Iowa Division of Labor Services OSHA bureau had issued a citation fining the company $4,500 but later withdrew it. Agency officials confirmed the action Thursday but referred further questions to the Iowa OSHA administrator, who was not immediately available.

Colleen Paradine died in the July 6 fire. Authorities say the 53-year-old worker went to the store early to make doughnuts when the fire broke out. The store was closed at the time.

Firefighters found her unconscious inside. She was pronounced dead at a Waterloo hospital.

A telephone message left Thursday for a company spokesman was not immediately returned.
