A fund has been set to help a family who lost their home in Sioux City's Morningside neighborhood Wednesday morning.
Fire officials Myron Ohrtman was sleeping in his home at 1409 S. Cleveland Street when he heard his smoke alarm go off.
A neighbor noticed smoke coming from the house and helped rescue Ohrtman from him home, who uses a wheelchair. Ohrtman was taken to Mercy Medical Center for further evaluation.
Ohrtman's wife, Ann, was not home at the time. The home has been red-tagged and the cause is still under investigation. A fund has been established to help the Ohrtman's. Donations can be made at any U.S. Bank location in Sioux City.
