Sioux City's laid the ground work for the Pearl Street Historic District: new pipes, new streets, and new businesses.
With the infrastructure in place, they're working on curb appeal on one of the oldest parts of town.
More than $200,000 has been committed to revitalization projects on the west-end of town.
Funds from the facade program will be directed toward restoring store fronts with new windows, signs, and brick work.
"They're required to run past, or get approval from us, any design that they're going to do, such as paint color, signage, exterior storefront restoration, anything like that we have to approve first," said city planner Jill Wanderscheid.
Officials say the money will help speed up projects, which would have otherwise taken multiple years to complete.
