SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE (KTIV) -

For nine years they've taken a stand. Marching in the name of children lost to the child welfare system.

The Memorial March brings Native Americans from across Siouxland together to honor native children lost to adoption, and foster care.

The group says Native Americans in Woodbury County, have a seven times greater chance of losing parental rights, or a child to the state.

They hope to reduce that number by fixing the child welfare system.

"We think that the system is broken and we have undertaken steps to make things better for our families and our children and our community," said organizer, Frank LaMere.

The march was held after the conference Wednesday, where about 100 people took part.
