Monday afternoon, local leaders and even Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, turned some dirt in celebration of the soon to be built Cobblestone Hotel and Suites.
The building will cost about $2.8 million.
Inside will be 44 rooms, a swimming pool, whirlpool, small convenience store, wine and beer bar and meeting space.
Wayne has three other hotels already.
Officials say recent research suggests they can sustain another.
"It showed that we could support up to 100 new rooms in the community at around that 56-58 percent occupancy rate, which is about state average," said the Executive Director of Wayne Area Economic Development Wes Blecke.
Officials hope to have the hotel complete around May of next year.
They say an additional 22 rooms can be added on if needed.
