Dakota Dunes homeowners still fearful of another flood
DAKOTA DUNES, SD (KTIV) -
Some homeowners along the Missouri River are still fearful of what could happen next year.
Ann Peterson's basement in Dakota Dunes this summer had two and a half feet of ground water inside.
The water's gone now, but the lower level is no where near what it used to be.
"We're taking a real conservative approach. We are probably not going to do any finish on our basement until we know for sure that this probably is not likely to happen again," Peterson said. "We know that the house is safe to live in as is. It's just not real attractive any more."
Peterson says she and her husband probably won't be doing any work on the basement for at least another year.
They've also increased their flood insurance levels, but hopes she'll never have to use them.
