SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
After months of debate the Sioux City School board votes tonight whether to close Whittier elementary school.
District officials are recommending that Whittier be closed in the spring of 2014.
They say the district would save $270,000 a year by closing Whittier school and sending its students to five other schools.
Many parents and teachers have spoken out against the move, not wanting to lose their neighborhood elementary school
Some worry the move will lead to overcrowded classrooms in the schools where the students are sent.
