Crop insurance rates skyrocket after summer floods

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Farmers may be socked with steep increases in their crop insurance premiums if levees damaged by last summer's flooding are not fixed.  land behind damaged levees can cost two to three times as much to insure, adding tens of thousands of dollars to farmers' expenses.

The problem is there's not enough money for levee repairs.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is focusing on fixing levees that protect homes and facilities like water treatment plants and not on levees protecting farm land.
