A former billing clerk who admitted stealing from the city of Garner has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Globe Gazette in Mason City reports that 49-year-old Tammy Brant was sentenced on Tuesday in Hancock County District Court.
Brant had pleaded guilty to first-degree theft and to tampering with records over a nearly five-year period. She was given 10 years for the theft, two years for the tampering. The sentences are to be served at the same time.
In a plea deal, four other charges were dismissed.
Brant was arrested in July after a state audit found that more than $112,000 in collections was not deposited. It also found city customers had been overbilled for services.
She was ordered to pay more than $112,000 in restitution.
