Debate brings thousands to Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Besides the candidates, the debate brought out thousands of people from Siouxland and across the country. An estimated 2,000 attended the sold out event alone.

They came in droves. Political posses, proud supporters, and people who just wanted to see the candidates for themselves.

"I wanted to see their mannerisms, I didn't just want to see what the media wants us to see," said Michelle Kallahan from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

"It's the last debate before the caucus and I wanted to see it and be apart of it," said Matt Winter from Sibley, Iowa.

Before they got in though, they had to wait in a line stretching around the block, standing in chilly temps of 32.

"I don't even feel the cold, it's exciting," said one woman.

For others, a man who calls himself "Mark the Freedom Poet" warmed with a few renditions of "Silent Night."

"I am out here, because I want to infuse the spirit of Christmas into these debates," he said

While some had their candidates picked already, others used Thursday as their last chance to choose.

"I need a better educated opinion on these people than what the ads on TV can give me right now," said Samantha Olson from Emerson, Nebraska.

Thursday night was full of lots of opinions and lots of people, no debate about it.
