The magic of the Polar Express was alive and well Tuesday at one Sioux City elementary school.
Second graders at Whittier Elementary listened together as a volunteer dressed as conductor read them the Chris Van Allsburg work.
The students later enjoyed the movie version of the book. The guest reader says the children spoke up if anything in the movie was different from the book.
"Well occasionally I do have to be very careful to make sure I do the story accurately, because once in a while if I have any inaccuracy that will be pointed out to me by the young people. Which I think is excellent. It mean's they're paying attention and read the story before and enjoy it, and they want to be part of the experience," said Bill Bade, volunteer and Polar Express reader.
Afterwards students were given candy canes as a holiday gift from the Polar Express.
