A disbarred Omaha attorney has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for wire fraud.
The U.S. attorney's office says 41-year-old William Bouda, of Omaha, was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in August to committing mail fraud in 2010 while working as a claims examiner for an insurance agency. Prosecutors say he falsified an insurance claim file in an effort to cause the insurance company to issue a check for $160,000 to pay off a judgment against a former client he represented.
Authorities say the check was sent to a law firm, which was suspicious of the check and contacted the insurance company.
Earlier this month, the Nebraska Supreme Court said Bouda was unfit to practice law, saying he exhibited a pattern of deception.
