Service dog comes home

A Sioux City Judge has granted a preliminary injunction to return a service dog to Jim Sak.  The city of Aurelia, Iowa, where Sak lives, has a ban on pit bulls.  "Snickers" is a pit bull mix.  The city took the service dog away but a federal judge ruled yesterday that Sak can have the dog until the lawsuit is decided.  Sak and his dog were reunited last night.  The mayor of Aurelia would not comment on the case saying it is in litigation.

Rescue group seeking owner of wounded dog

Noah's Hope Animal Rescue is looking for the owner of an injured dog found wandering near I-29.  Andy, as rescue workers have named him, underwent surgery for a gash in his back and is recovering.  Workers are not sure what caused the injury.  The black lab has no identification. If you have information about Andy... there's a link at KTIV.com.

Arrest made after several people hospitalized in Cherokee County

A man is behind bars in Cherokee county accused of giving four people the drug MDPV or "Bath Salts."  Lee Mercer, 35, is charged with ongoing criminal conduct and four counts of distributing imitation controlled substances.  On December 18th, authorities say four people ingested a substance believed to be an illegal drug known as "Bath Salts."  The sheriff says three samples of the drug have been sent to the state lab for further testing.

Hobart's humble good bye to Sioux City

As he gets ready to leave office, Sioux City Mayor Mike Hobart said he's proud of the city's progress in his four years at the helm and is confident that trend will continue in the coming years.  During his State of The City Address yesterday, Hobart said he was happy to accomplish his goals of keeping taxes in check and enhancing the city's quality of life.  Sioux City's new mayor, Bob Scott, will be sworn in next month.
