SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Rick Santorum is counting on the backing gained in Iowa and help from outside groups to carry him to victory in New Hampshire and beyond.
The former Pennsylvania Senator finished second in Tuesday's Iowa Caucuses, with only eight votes separating him and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
Santorum aides reported raising $1 million on Wednesday, largely through a surge in online donations.
A big Santorum supporter, Family Leader CEO Bob Vander Plaats, said Santorum leaves Iowa with a stamp of credibility and authenticity.
"One is he's going to get a lot of media wherever he goes right now and that's invaluable. The caucus win for him, outperforming expectations last night, that's invaluable to him. But then people need to get off the sidelines and there's a lot of money parked on the sidelines right now, waiting to see who would be the alternative to Mitt Romney," said Bob Vander Plaats.
Vander Plaats said Santorum's strong showing last night gave him a huge launch out of the state of Iowa.
