The high school honor band celebrated its 58th year with performances at Morningside College. Students from 40 area schools participated. Guest conductors from the University of Northern Iowa and South Dakota State University worked with the students.
"You can get together in one day, and put all this music together and it's amazing that with just a few hours of practice, you can come up with something so wonderful, so musical," said Yashila Permeswaran, a bassoonist from Le Mars, Iowa.
"There's new music every year and I've grown as a player but still the music challenges me and it's still a good time," said Alissa Zink, a tenor sax from Le Mars.
"It's very nice to learn from them and just to be able to be a part off this great music," said Ryan Darks, a string bassist from Ocheyedan.
179 students represented schools from 15 different counties in Northwest Iowa.
